Israeli Airstrike Claims Life of Senior Hezbollah Leader Nabil Kaouk: Reports
The Israeli military reported the death of another high-ranking Hezbollah official, Nabil Kaouk, in an airstrike on Saturday. Kaouk, the deputy head of Hezbollah’s Central Council, was a veteran member of the group since the 1980s and had previously served as the military commander in southern Lebanon. His death follows the killing of Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, in Beirut on Friday during Israeli strikes. Hezbollah has been launching rockets and missiles into northern Israel, although most have been intercepted, causing minimal damage.
In less than two weeks, Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon have resulted in over 1,030 deaths, including women and children. The violence has displaced hundreds of thousands of people, with many now living in shelters or with relatives.
The conflict erupted following Hamas’ attack on Israel from Gaza, with Hezbollah joining as an ally of Hamas. Both are part of an Iran-backed alliance. Despite ongoing indirect negotiations for a cease-fire, tensions continue to escalate, with fears of a broader regional conflict growing. US President Joe Biden remarked that Nasrallah’s death was a form of justice for victims of Hezbollah’s long history of violence.
